About The Project
EHDOC is a national non-profit housing developer and owner, who recently opened 40 new units of senior citizen housing located in Albuquerque, New Mexico. The funding was part of the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development 202 Program, a highly competitive program that awards a limited number of grants across the country. This was the only award in the State of New Mexico and TC Architects was part of EHDOC’s development team that put together the award winning application.
The design of the 35,300 square foot building provides 40 one-bedroom apartments in a 4-story structure that reflects characteristics of the Southwest and Adobe styles, dominant influences in this community. The building and all of the apartments are designed to be visitable. Five percent of the units are fully accessible. The first floor of the building provides various opportunities for social interaction and resident services. This area has a lobby, mail area, lounge, office, library, health and wellness center, and community room.
The site planning positions the building to front on Historic Central Avenue (US Rt. 66), the primary East/West route through Albuquerque, acknowledging its urban location and the urban pattern of development taking place in this area. TC Architects is proud to be a part of the EHDOC team and their initial senior citizen development in New Mexico, the first of many to come.
